Butter Biscuits/ Nanakattan

Butter biscuits is my alltime favourite snack.My hubby loves it so much that he makes it a point to empty the biscuit container before the next sun rise!! :) :)its also a favourite among kiddos and also adult.Here goes the recipe...





INGREDIENTS:

All purpose flour - 1 cup
Powdered sugar - 1/2 cup 
Softened butter- 1/2 cup
Baking powder - 1/4 tsp
Cardamom powder -a pinch 
Rice flour -  2 tbsp 
Salt-a pinch

METHOD:
  1. Sieve the all purpose flour finely and add the powdered sugar ,baking powder and cardamon powder and mix well.
  2. Then add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and  knead it well to form a dough.
  3. Pre heat the oven to 350 deg fahrenheit.Form equal sized balls out of the dough and press them into round biscuit shapes..
  4. Finally  bake the biscuits for about 20 mts in a baking tray..Let the biscuits cool down completely.Enjoy as your tea time snack :)
SCRIBBLED NOTES:
  • You can also carve a round shape with any cap or press with a fork to make different patterns on biscuits to make an impression  like the biscuits we get in bakery :)

Kara Sev



Its freezing rain outside here,and a spicy Indian snack would soothe my hungry soul..This was the thought that ran through my mind and the next minute my hands were working on creating KARA SEV. I do remember those days when my dad would bring a packet of kara sev and a few samosas when he returns back home from office...:-) :-) Nostalgic memories!!My little hands would be the first one to plunge into those spicy wonders..:-) Who ever thought that this lil hands would be making those spicy wonders..:-)


INGREDIENTS:

  • Gram flour(Besan)                    1 cup
  • Rice flour                                1 cup
  • Salt                                        as per taste
  • Turmeric pwd                           a pinch
  • Asafoetida(Hing)                      1/4 tsp
  • Jeera                                      1 tsp
  • Butter softened                        2 tbsp
  • Pepper(crushed coarsely)           1 & 1/2 tsp
  • Ajwain/Omam seeds(optional)    1 tsp
  • Oil for frying

METHOD: 
  1. Take a bowl and mix both the flours together without any lumps,then add the softened butter to it.Add the jeera,crushed pepper,salt,turmeric powder,omam seeds,asafoetida and mix it well.
  2. Knead well into a dough.
  3. Take a murukku maker,use the murukku plate and press it in medium flamed oil.Drain the sev  in a paper and enjoy :)I am sure even this would bring back your golden memories!!
